Director's Welcome 2010

Kia Ora!

Reel Earth is the film festival with huge heart.  Warm.  Beating.  Bringing global viewpoints and stories that will challenge, inspire and uplift.  Reel Earth is where the earth gets seen, gets heard, gets attention.

In 2010 we present the best single collection of nature and environmental film to ever dance across the big screen in New Zealand.  Natural history, environmental justice, success stories; the festival is a superb collection of documentary spiced with animations and spoofs.  The eight features on tour our the very best from over two hundred entries received in this years competition.

Reel Earth grew out of the recognition that our home planet needs all the attention we can give it.  If we are to progress towards a more sustainable, more equitable environment; one capable of giving our children and their successors in turn a future full of hope; then we need to make changes in the way we see ourselves, live our lives and value our world.  These films point the way.

You are invited.  To enjoy the film.  To start a conversation.  To tell us which films worked for you, and which films did not.  To ask your library to purchase this film.  To follow the film online.  To enjoy a better tomorrow because of what we did today.

The festival organizers are based in the Manawatu, we running this festival as volunteers, on a not-for profit basis.  We are immensely grateful to our three principal sponsors for their support, and to the local cinema bringing Reel Earth to a screen near you.

Enjoy!
