Kauri are an ancient natural wonder of New Zealand. They once dominated the landscape and now the remaining trees have become icons for locals and tourists who come to see the legend. On Coromandel Peninsula a long running project (Kauri 2000) has re-established Kauri and restored heritage to the hills. However they are not safe. A disease has emerged that is killing Kauri with a rampant sickness, startling scientists, conservationists and hunters at its appearance and sudden onset. This documentary film, Kauri, weaves natural and human history into an informative, inspiring and real story. Following the Kauri tree's journey from seed to forest giant, meeting the plants, insects and animals that live with it.
